Frequently Asked Questions
Understanding Originals vs. Commissions
What is the difference between original art and commissions?
Original paintings are unique pieces I create from my own personal inspiration and artistic exploration. These are available for immediate purchase in my shop. Commissioned artwork, however, is a collaborative process where I create a bespoke painting based on your specific brief. Commissions are a wonderful way to capture personal memories -such as the landscape where you got engaged.
Ordering Original Artwork
What is the difference between your oil and acrylic paintings?
I use professional-grade oil paints for pieces requiring deep colour blending and a traditional luster, while my acrylic paintings offer a more modern, semi-abstract, but durable, fast-drying finish. Both mediums are executed on quality canvases to ensure they last a lifetime.
How do I know the painting will look the same in person?
I take high-resolution photos in natural light to represent the colours as accurately as possible. However, please note that display settings on different monitors can vary slightly. If you'd like to see a video of a specific original oil painting before purchasing, feel free to contact me.
Do the paintings come framed?
Most of my original canvas paintings are sold unframed unless stated otherwise. This allows you to choose a frame that matches your personal home decor - and also means they're a bit more affordable. If you'd like advice on getting a frame, please reach out via the contact form and I'd be happy to support.
Commissioning Custom Art
How do I commission a custom oil or acrylic painting?
I love bringing your visions to life! To start a custom art commission, simply fill out this form to share your ideas, preferred size, and medium (acrylic or oil).
How long does a commission take to complete?
The timeline depends on the medium and complexity. Acrylic commissions typically take 1 month once everything has been agreed, while oil paintings require 2-3 months to allow for the necessary drying time before they can be safely shipped. I will always let you know upfront how long I expect it to take and keep you updated on the progress.
How do you price custom art commissions?
Each commission is uniquely quoted based on the medium (oil vs. acrylic), the dimensions of the canvas, and the shipping destination. For example, a small-scale acrylic painting for a local collector will have a different price point than a large-scale oil painting requiring international crating and shipping. To get an accurate estimate for your project, please fill out this form.
What is your payment structure for commissions?
For all custom paintings, I require a 50% non-refundable deposit to begin work. The remaining 50% is due once the painting is complete and you have approved the final photos.
Shipping & Care
How do you package and ship original art?
I take extreme care in shipping original artwork. Where possible I will try to hand-deliver them, so we both know it arrived safely, to your hands, and not left on a doorstep. If this isn't possible, each painting will be wrapped in acid-free paper, cushioned with bubble wrap, and shipped in a heavy-duty cardboard box. All orders include tracking and insurance for your peace of mind.
How should I care for my new painting?
To preserve your original oil or acrylic painting, avoid hanging it in direct sunlight or areas of high humidity (like bathrooms). Dust lightly with a clean, dry microfiber cloth or a soft brush. Never use water or cleaning chemicals on the paint surface.
