The Story: This original acrylic painting captures a rare, luminous moment during my November 2024 trip to Iceland: the sun rising over a black sand beach. In a landscape often defined by its stark, monochromatic power, this work focuses on the first break of light—a delicate, golden horizon line that breathes life into the heavy winter mists.

To translate the magic of that Icelandic dawn, I incorporated subtle gold accents within the sky and reflecting on the shoreline. These metallic touches catch the light as you move around the room, mimicking the shimmering quality of the sun hitting wet volcanic sand. It is an exploration of contrast—the deep, grounded blacks of the earth meeting the ethereal, glowing light of a new day. This piece serves as a quiet reminder of the optimism that can be found even in the most rugged environments.
